The Spinal Injuries Association of Malawi (SIAM) is making progress in expanding economic opportunities for persons with spinal injuries through the PATHS Project, an initiative designed to promote sustainable livelihoods, strengthen economic independence and improve social inclusion.

Supported by the Leopold Bachmann Foundation (LBF), the project, officially titled Sustainable Livelihoods and Stronger Systems for People with Spinal Injuries in Malawi, runs from June 2026 to July 2027. It seeks to address barriers that often limit access to employment, business development, finance and meaningful participation in community life.

Training and Financing Support Livelihood Development

During the initial implementation period, SIAM reached 24 participants through entrepreneurship-related training and a further 18 through agriculture and livelihood training. The activities were designed to strengthen participants’ business knowledge and prepare them to establish or expand income-generating activities.
